Christening service at St John's
*Please read before completing this form*
Our christening services take place at 12:30pm on the second Sunday of the month. Most services will include two separate families bringing candidates to baptism. This reflects the history and religious beliefs that underpin christening services as community events rather than private celebrations.
In the past, we have allowed up to a maximum of 8 Godparents. Following a period of reflection, we are now only accepting a maximum of 4 Godparents with new bookings. This is to underline the important responsibilities of a Godparent to a child: investing in their relationship as they grow, offering wisdom and guidance rooted in the Christian Faith, and providing practical support for their holistic development. Their relationship should grow into a deep bond built on trust, care, and love.
As a result of this policy change, some services may have one family with more Godparents than another until summer 2027.
In highly exceptional circumstances, special provisions can be made. If you believe this applies to you, please write to our Rector, Ben Thompson, at [email protected] to explain the situation and request a meeting.
