Being baptised [christened] is an exciting start to a journey of faith, no matter what age you are. It is a recognition of God's love for all God's children and a joyful time for family, friends and the church.
In Workington parishes, christenings usually take place on the second Sunday in a month at St Michael's, and the fourth Sunday of the month at St John's. In exceptional circumstances, alternative dates and times can be arranged by negotiation with the rector through our contact pages. Christenings are offered free of charge, although donations towards the cost of maintaining each church are always most welcome.
Before the big day, the priest taking the service will arrange to visit you so they can say hello and get to know you a little. They will discuss the service, explaining what happens, and will check any relevant details, such as Godparents' names, and any relevant family details.
You can find out more information about christenings, including what happens in the service, choosing godparents, advice on christening gifts and much more on the Church of England's Christening Website
We would be very happy to hear from you to help plan this special day in the life of your family. If you would like further details, you can contact the Rector using the details at the bottom of the page. If you would like to book a baptism, please use the links below.
